Planning an Ultimate Photography Trip - All the Gear

So there has been a lot going on since my first trip post in January. Now that the trip is a week away I felt I should go through the list of gear that I've picked up to make sure that I have everything I need to get great shots of this trip.

The Gear

Camera - I am bringing the Canon 5D Mark II 21 megapixel full-frame dslr that also shoots 1080p HD video.
Lens (every day) - Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L
Lens (wide angle) - Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L
Lens (telephoto) - To get the shots from afar I'm using the Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM
Lens (portrait) - For this I'll take along the Thrifty Fifty Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Lens
Bag - My gear will be transported in the Lowepro Fastpack 250 read my review here Lowepro Fastpack Review
Tripod - For the landscape pictures I will have a tripod with me, the Velbon El Carmagne 540 Carbon Fiber Tripod
Computer - I will have Lightroom 2 installed on my 13.3 Apple MacBook Pro and an additional 2 GB of RAM (for 4 GB total) and a 120 GB harddrive
Storage - To keep all the images I will have one 640 GB Seagate FreeAgent hard drive and a 2nd 640 drive to store backups for a total (with laptop) of 1.36 TB of storage.
Geo Tagging - To geotag my pictures I will take along a Sony GPS-CS3KA GPS tracker
Flash - the Canon 580EX II
Memory - I've got 2 16GB UDMA cards
Power - I have the Canon BG-E6 Battery Grip with two batteries and a 3rd battery for continued shooting
Misc - I've also got a circular polarizer, rechargeable AAs, a pelican waterproof case and an outdoor research 25L Dry Sack, one radiopopper JrX transmitter and receiver

Here is a picture of the entire setup.

Well, that's the list. I should be doing full reviews of all of these items and how they held up on the trip. But that will have to wait until I'm done with the trip.

I should have everything I need to get whatever shots I can envision. I can't wait to put together the book when this trip is finished. I won't be going back any time soon and I fully intend to make the most of this amazing opportunity.

Planning an Ultimate Photography Trip - Step 1

My two largest passions are photography and travel. I'm always excited when I get to combine the two. Last winter I took a trip to Italy and took a ton of pictures. I created a blurb book about the experience and have been waiting to do it again.

Well, next fall I will be traveling to South America and, as before, I plan on photography being the main focus of my trip. This time I want to document all of my photography related activities as I do them. From start to finish, from picking up UV filters to printed a photo book, I will record every photography activity I take so that others can learn and embark on their own successful and amazing photography trip.

Before I move on to the rest, let me say that the entire process will be collected under the blog category of:
